Advancing professional fundraising
Fundraising Institute Australia advances philanthropy through encouraging and supporting people and organisations to ethically practise excellence in fundraising
From the CEO's desk

This past month has seen a flurry of activity in our sector, amongst the membership and lastly within the secretariat.
Most of you would be aware that the Government is moving apace to establish the office of the industry regulator, the ACNC by July 2012. In recent times the FIA has been reviewing with Treasury officials the Exposure Draft for Establishment of the Australian Charities and Not-for-Profit Commission and a discussion paper on the Administrative Arrangements for the NFP sector. Both of these are vital stepping stones along the way, and we are pleased that the government has recognised that the initial time frame set for responses was unreasonable given the time of year and has pushed back the due dates to 20thJanuary to allow better consultation.
We also await another discussion paper on a matter close to our heart, National Fundraising Reform, that was originally due to be released mid December which is now expected later in January. Alongside these sector based issues, the Acting Commissioner Susan Pascoe AM is chairing another task force formed to review the Implementation and Design of reporting requirements for the NFP sector.
While we have concern that many of these issues need robust examination as the devil is in the detail, we are comforted by the fact that those charged with the design and implementation are willing to consult to ensure that there are no unintended consequences. After all, the intention has been to minimize the regulatory burden on the NFP sector.
