National media coverage for our new CEO

An interview with FIA's new CEO Rob Edwards announcing his appointment, together with his views on charity boards, has been published in the Australian Financial Review. Here are some excerpts from the Australian Financial Review article entitled "Raising the bar for charity boards". The full article is available in the newspaper's 29 September edition.
For years, charity and not-for-profit organisations have been grateful for pretty much any corporate type with the time and goodwill to sit on their boards. Often, directors even brought friends on board through their social networks.
But the new chief executive of the country's peak body for professional fundraisers, Rob Edwards, said appointments to boards in the charity sector would probably become more transparent, and more styled on a corporate approach, following the creation of a new regulator for the industry from July 1 next year. Mr Edwards heads Fundraising Institute Australia.
"In the past, boards invited people on because they thought they could make a good contribution," Mr Edwards said.
"Now it will become far more transparent - more modelled on a corporate approach, whereby getting the right mix of skill sets is paramount.
"Under a new regulator, the fiduciary and other such responsibilities for boards will also become hugely important."
...Mr Edwards said it marked an exciting time for the sector, and vowed that the Fundraising Institute would work hard to ensure its members' interests were represented to the new regulator...
The Fundraising Institute's chairman, Leo Orland, said Mr Edwards's primary task would be to enhance its relationships engagement with its members, volunteers and other stakeholders, including industry and government.
