Charitable Fundraising Regulation Reform Discussion Paper

14 February 2012

Reform of potential benefit and vital to fundraising, FIA members are encouraged to input to charitable fundraising regulation reform discussion paper.

Submissions are due 5th April 2012.

Please read, this one is really important!

I am very encouraged by the tone and manner of the Discussion Paper. It starts from a deregulatory point of view and specifially references FIA codes.

For instance:

  • one heading reads, "Is regulation necessary?"
  • the foreward specifically recognises "that compliance burdens could be reduced by reform of fundraising regulation", and
  • exempting small scale fundraising altogether is clearly an option.

Add to that the other encouraging development that the government clearly listened to our complaints about submission-overload, and both delayed the release of this Discussion Paper and has allowed a reasonable time to respond.

FIA will be consulting extensively with the membership in preparing our response and drafting our submission. So watch this space.

This is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to both achieve national consistency and reduce red tape. Let's go for it.

The discussion paper is available at the Treasury website
