Types of Individual Membership
Associate Member (AMFIA)
Clause 16 of the FIA Constitution
Associate membership is for individuals who have less than two years fundraising experience. This membership signifies the start of your fundraising career, providing you with membership at a reduced price, whilst allowing you to receive the same benefits as our regular membership.
Regular Member (MFIA)
Clause 17 of the FIA Constitution
Regular membership is for individuals who have more than two years fundraising experience.
Executive Member (EMFIA)
Clause 18 of the FIA Constitution
Executive membership is open to regular members of FIA, subject to the approval of the board.
All regular members who have more than five years fundraising experience are eligible to apply for this membership.
To apply for executive membership:
| (a) | Subject to the approval of the Board, Executive Membership shall be open to regular members: |
| (i) | who at the time of application for Executive Membership have or have previously had for a period of more than five (5) years service substantially earned their livelihood as fundraising consultants retained by or as executives engaged in fundraising for organisations, institutions, societies or causes legally entitled to conduct fundraising appeals or to solicit gift-support; and |
| (ii) | who at the time of application are substantially so earning their livelihood; and |
| (iii) | whose professional position at the time of application accords with Company requirements for its Individual Members; and |
| (iv) | who provide evidence of a minimum of twenty (20) hours of continuous professional development training being undertaken in the previous membership year; and |
| (v) | who are so accredited by the Board or have been exempted from this requirement by the board. |
| (b) | An Executive Member shall automatically revert to the class of a Regular Member if the Executive Member fails to provide evidence as required by clause 1(a)(iv). |
Executive Members (EMFIA) are required to provide evidence of a minimum of twenty (20) hours of continuing professional development activities annually.
Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Points are allocated according to a combination of the number of hours and effort involved and the learning outcomes.

Members will be able to refer to the various activities and their relevant point allocation as below and also on the various event flyers for the membership year.
These points were revised for the current membership year and relate to activities that begin on or after 1 July 2011.

Fellow Member
Clause 19 of the FIA Constitution
Election as a Fellow of the Fundraising Institute Australia is a professional honour that is awarded following intense review and reflection by one’s peers.
To be eligible for election as a Fellow, an FIA member must meet the requirement of a fellow as detailed in clause 19 of the FIA constitution:
| (a) | A Fellow of the Company shall be a Regular Member elected as a Fellow at a general meeting of the Company and who continues to pay membership fees. The designation of Fellow shall be recommended by the Board only in respect of a person who has had not less than ten years’ experience in the fundraising profession and who in the opinion of the Board has rendered distinguished service in or to the profession including in or to Fundraising Institute Australia. If the number of Fellows at any time equals or exceeds the number which is ten per cent of the total number of Regular Members no additional Fellows shall be elected until the number of existing Fellows is less than the number which is ten per cent of the total number of Regular Members. |
| (b) | A nomination of a Member for election as a Fellow shall be in a form prescribed by the Board. The Board of Directors may establish a Fellows Nominating Committee to assist the Board to develop a procedure for the evaluation of nominations and the decision whether or not to recommend such nominee for designation as a Fellow by election shall be made at the next Board meeting. |
