The Joan and Ted Flack Scholarship

Congratulations to the 2017 scholarship recipient

  • Joshua Lawrence MFIA, Conquer Cancer

FIA Queensland offers scholarships to one FIA QLD member per year for a full registration (excluding Masterclass) to attend the annual FIA Conference. The Scholarship is designed to provide educational opportunities to early career (less than 5 years in the industry) fundraisers to grow their knowledge and level of fundraising practice; provide encouragement to them to pursue a career in the field; and deliver benefits to their non-profit organisation and through them the wider community.

The scholarship is aimed to support early career fundraisers, particularly those from organisations that may not have the financial resources to attend the FIA Conference. The successful applicant will be required to give a short presentation at an FIA Breakfast meeting in the following 12 months to outline what they gained from the opportunity and how it was applied to their organisation/career.

The Joan and Ted Flack Scholarship honours the incredible contribution of both Joan and Ted to fundraising and to FIA. Their combined experience has contributed to the growth of fundraising, organisations, the advancement of the industry and the development of fundraiser knowledge.

Mandatory selection criteria include:

  • Must be a financial member of FIA.
  • Early Career Fundraiser ie. Less than 5 years in a fundraising role.
  • At least 50% of the applicant’s time is devoted to fundraising in a non-profit organisation.
  • Applicant is responsible for all costs beyond the scholarship of one conference registration fee.
  • Applicant must agree to give a verbal report on their attendance, key lessons learned and implemented at an FIA Breakfast meeting in the 12 months following the Conference.
  • The Scholarship must be repaid in full if the winner does not attend the Conference in the year of the Award.
